Building skills, confidence, and game understanding

Who this program is for:

The U10–U13 Competitive Program is for players who are ready to build on the skills developed at U9 and continue their development in a more structured, competitive team environment while introducing formal league play. This program is a natural progression for players who enjoy training regularly, learning new skills, and being challenged while still having fun.

At this stage, players are developing greater awareness, coordination, and confidence, making it an ideal time to deepen technical skills and begin understanding how individual actions connect to team play.

The Player Experience:

The U10–U13 years are often described as a key learning window in player development. Players are better able to reflect on their play, learn from mistakes, and apply feedback.

Players will:

• Expand technical skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control
• Learn and apply basic principles of play, including spacing, support, and movement on and off the ball
• Be encouraged to make decisions independently, supporting player autonomy and creativity
• Build confidence, resilience, and teamwork through training and games
• Be introduced to concepts such as goal setting, mental preparation, and handling both success and challenge

Training remains fun, engaging, and appropriately challenging, in alignment with Long-Term Player Development principles.

Assessments:

All U10–U13 players are required to attend assessments. Assessments support balanced team formation and appropriate development environments.

The Program Structure:

The U10–U13 Competitive League offers a winter development program focused on training and skill development: 

• Sessions balance structured learning with game-like scenarios. 

• 2 x Winter Dome sessions (60 minutes in length).

• Session days and times will be determined based on the number of groups formed.

• Teams are led by Certified Head Coaches and oversight is provided by a Provincial or National–certified Assistant Technical Director.

• Players provide mandatory equipment including shin guards, cleats, and a size 4 soccer ball
• Players must also purchase a Hornets game uniform kit (game jersey, training jersey, shorts, and socks)
• Team fees are charged in addition to club registration and may cover equipment, tournaments, and festival/league registration.
